well this is the first mainstream rock single, in case anyone hasn't seen the lyrics, here they are.

V1
 the secret side of me
 i never let you see
i keep it caged but i can't control it so stay away from me the beast
is ugly i feel the rage and i just can't hold it

 it's scratchin on the walls
in the closet, in the halls
it comes awake and i can't control it
 hidin under the bed
in my body, in my head
why won't somebody come and save me from this make it end

 CHORUS:
 i feel it deep within
 it's just beneath the skin
i must confess that i feel like a monster

 i hate what i've become
 the nightmare's just begun
i must confess that i feel like a monster

 i feel like a monster

 V2
 my secret side i keep
 hid under lock and key
i keep it caged but i can't control it cause if i let him out
he'll tear me up, break me down
why won't somebody come and save me from this make it end

 bridge:
 its hidin in the dark
 its teeth are razor sharp
 there's no escape for me
it wants my soul it wants my heart

no one can hear me scream
 maybe its just a dream
or maybe its inside of me
 stop this monster

Honestly, I hate how they are doing a separate single for mainstream and Christian Rock. I mean, why can't they just do one for both? That way, when people hear the song on their favorite Active Rock station and they like it, and then later hear it when flipping channels on the Christian Rock station, they might be drawn into the Christian Rock station and realize "Hey, this stuff isn't terrible like I always thought." Random, I know, but I just thought I might share. In other news, I'm super pumped about hearing "Monster" on my Active Rock station soon!  Grin

It's probably the people in each market. They want to promote to the secular and christian market and sadly at large the christian market is overly responsive to Skillet. I'm talking the christian market at LARGE large...like Third Day, Natalie Grant, MercyMe large. Not to say at all that those bands are bad, but Skillet has to release something a little more palatable to the Christian market for it to be accepted. I hope that kind of makes sense and maybe I'm way off base but that's just my opinion. However, I totally agree with you're statement about someone flipping through stations and they hear Skillet's stuff.

I don't think Skillet's music has ever catered to the Christian market, nor should they try to. They offer a great rock alternative to the j-pop on christian radio and they should continue to take that angle.

Well, Skillet is actually considered to be one of the all-time best bands in the Christian Rock market, so I don't think anything they release will be rejected by the Christian Rock market, which they should use to their advantage.

you are missing the point, the christian rock radio market is almost nothing!  it is barely a blip on the radio radar if you will.  there are almost no CR stations!  Hero would do better on the C CHR radio (air1, wayfm, etc), and that is why they release it there.

right on Timmy, Skillet needs to go for the jugular with every new release.

Okay, I see what you're saying, and I know how small the Christian Rock radio market is. My point it that they shouldn't isolate the Christian Rock market, but I totally agree about Christian CHR. I would rather "Monster" just be released to Christian Rock alongside the others though, and then "Hero" could be released to Christian CHR if they wanted to.
