this will be the first Christian single, here are the lyrics.  discuss...

i'm just a step away
i'm a just a breath away
losin my faith today
JEN:  fallin off the edge today

i am just a man
not superhuman
            JEN:   i'm not superhuman
someone save me from the hate

pre:
it's just another war
just another family torn
JEN:  falling from my faith today
just a step from the edge
just another day in the world we live

chorus:
i need a hero to save me now
i need a hero
          JEN: save me now
i need a hero to save my life
a hero'll save me
            JEN: just in time

V2
i gotta fight today
to live another day
speakin my mind today
JEN:  my voice will be heard today

i've gotta make a stand
but i am just a man
                JEN: i'm not superhuman
my voice will be heard today

pre:
it's just another war
just another family torn
JEN:   my voice will be heard today
it's just another kill
the countdown begins to destroy ourselves

 bridge:
who's gonna fight for what's right

       who's gonna help us survive

we're in the fight of our lives

JEN: and we're not ready to die

who's gonna fight for the weak
who's gonna make 'em believe
i've got a hero

                JEN: i've got a hero

livin in me

i'm gonna fight for whats right

      today i'm speaking my mind

and if it kills me tonight

JEN:i will be ready to die

a hero's not afraid to give his life
a hero's gonna save me just in time

The day is soon coming when turning your back won't be an option.
Keep telling yourself what you really don't believe.
You can compromise what you know to be true, and you can turn off all of your senses, but in the end you'll see nothing stands between a man and his maker.
No matter what it's your decision.
This isn't something you could do alone.
Give up, give in no matter what, it's your decision.

I've gotten to hear this song twice live so far this year and hopefully two more times as well.  Now that I can actually read the words I must say this song is very thought provoking. I'm getting they need a "Hero" to show them the way.  We all need a "Hero".  We all have those days when we feel like these lyrics and it's nice to know we have that "Hero" that will show us the way.

Am I the only one that doesn't think Skillet sounds ANYTHING like Nickelback?

I think this song will do pretty well in the Christian market, personally.  I'd be surprised if it didn't sit at the top for quite awhile.

The only time I think Skillet sounds like Nickelback is on the chorus of "The Older I Get", because if you compare that chorus to Nickelbacks "Photograph", they have a similar rhyme scheme.

That comparison will continue because John's voice is the only other gruff voice people hear in today's rock besides Chad Kroeger's.

Ugh except that if you play all of Nickelback's songs at the same time you get the same mediocre song.  If you played all of Skillet's songs at the same time...haha I don't even know.  This album better blow away any of those comparisons, because I think Skillet has so much more talent than Nickelback.  Obviously.  Haha.

Obviously, people think they're giving a complement because Nickelback is a mainstream success, but for panheads it's a complete diss to why we like Skillet.

I personally don't think Skillet sounds like Nickelback almost at all, and I never have.  Nickelback has pop influences.  Skillet has orchestral.  Both are rock, but Skillet's is harder edged.  Lyrically, they're miles apart.  I agree that "The Older I Get" is the only one that bears any resemblance, stylistically at least.

Anyway...

I am so stoked to here the studio version of "Hero."  I personally think it will do really well... I'm hoping it does.  I love the way they have the back and forth between John and Jen - I don't think I've ever heard another rock band do that, except for a few symphonic rock bands.  It really gives the track more power and a smoother, unique flow, in my opinion.

I think john has a much better screaming voice than chad Grin

as far as influences go, i think skillet has a much better hard-rock-like sound and isnt contained to just one type of music.... skillet:1000000, nickelback:-24.325........ Grin

btw, why would nickelback not have pop-rock influences if they play on the pop/hip-hop/rap radio stations Huh Huh ........  Tongue .....jk Grin
